There’s no market quite like the home electricity market in Texas, where shoppers can pick from dozens of providers and hundreds of plans. It sounds great. Until it turns into decision fatigue and inbox blindness. Every brand is loud. Every offer looks the same. And no one wakes up excited to compare electricity rates.

As the market leader, TXU Energy could have defended its position with play-it-safe creative work. But we thought they had permission to do something different. So we shook up the category with a platform built around “The Conversation.” Because energy choices rarely happen solo. They happen in kitchens, group chats, and over the fence with a neighbor. We brought the brand’s longtime pitchman off the stage and into real homes as a friendly neighbor … with a dash of magic to pull people in. Then we used that same world to bridge the gap between brand and performance, making every ad work harder from awareness to sign-up.

The results were the highest-testing creative in the category’s history, and customer acquisition that outperformed the market. Even during economic downturns. Turns out, the best way to win an old-fashioned shootout is with a conversation.
